We knew this would happen -- adjusting to the 13-hour time change. Our days and nights are mixed up. Although a week in Russia helped with the adjustment. By the time we had gotten up, the kids had already left for school. We/I emptied the suitcases and sorted the winter clothes, hats, gloves, scarves, etc. that all needed to be washed. (I soon learned that "my time" for the washer and dryer was going to be tricky, since Analea had the laundry baskets lined up first thing in the morning.) We opened the cardboard boxes containing our summer clothes. We had previously (and wisely) shipped them to Singapore in early November. We found empty drawers, closet space, etc. and basically took over McKenna's bedroom and bathroom.
Then, we discovered "the schedules", which are absolutely necessary for running a household which includes four children. One calendar is where Sarah writes what she would like for the family's dinner -- and Analea happily provides at exactly 5:15 to 5:30. Sometimes it might say that we are ordering pizza, or that we will not be home. The next schedule is the school lunch notification. If you want to purchase lunch at school, you write your name in that square on that day and Analea knows not to make a lunch for you. McKenna's name is always on Friday. We discovered that on Fridays her lunch room serves french fries! The third calendar is for activities; the who, the what and what time (Scouts, ballet, YW, after-school activities, etc). There is also the obligatory list of important phone numbers, who to call in an emergency, etc.
So, now it is lunch time and we discovered the leftover turkey in the refrigerator. Since we were in Russia on Thanksgiving Day (we ate a turkey sub at Subway), we missed the feast. We even discovered three pieces of pumpkin pie. So, we devoured two and left the third for Analea.
McKenna eating her after school snack. She stopped at the ice cream man's stand for this wonderful, cool treat. Apparently a hunk of chocolate chip ice cream folded in a slice of bread is one of her favorites that he provides.
The "schedules" are behind her head on the wall.
